The Night Shift Unheard Of

Image
I and my mate scurried through the empty hall. The light rustling of leaves and continuous chirping of the cricket were the only sounds that reverberated. No one was present. It was finally our time to take control of the night. The whole day the hustle and bustle of the men had made the place inaccessible to us. Tonight when finally the last person left the room, the lights turned off. This was our cue. The moon was kind to light our way. It was time for revenge. We didn’t have any particular grudge against the people of this company. We used to live in harmony with them. We made ourselves inconspicuous to make them feel comfortable. We never disturbed them when they were busy working. We even worked the night shifts, to keep the place bustling as they probably wanted. I always wondered if the work we did was appreciated or not. There was always this nagging doubt whether they even acknowledged our presence. But nevertheless, we kept working to our best. Every night our s...

ELECTRONIC LOVE

Once upon a time in the land of Electronics, there lived a young woman called Resistor. She was jovial, amiable and the apple of everyone’s eyes. A just and fair person, she resisted all worldly temptations, leading a plain life.  She had no family except the Wires, who proclaimed to be her distant cousins. She had some doubts about it, but well, she loved them nevertheless. Like all young girls of her age, she was blossoming in her youth and was madly in love with her beloved-charming and magnetic Inductor.  She got introduced to Inductor who was this shy, weird and twisted friend of the Wires but surprisingly they hit it off like two peas in a pod! It was the best thing that ever happened to her. They complemented each other so well; people of Electronics even believed Inductor would wrap his coiled arms around her pointy figure, something that only a true lover would do! The people of Electronics had a simple livelihood and shared everything with each other. Every...

Blind Turn

The roads were deserted. A slight fog hung over the end of the road as he drove cautiously towards it. He lifted his feet from the accelerator and gripped the steering wheel tightly in case he had to swerve around the corner. The fog slowly closed in and impaired his vision. His car’s headlights struggled to pave way through the white blanket that enveloped. He did not like this feeling of being blinded, yet it was the impending truth of his life. A cold shiver ran down his spine at the thought. No, he was not going to lose these precious few days cursing his luck. Pressing the accelerator pedal in an instant he lunged the car into the white darkness, wishing the night to never end, he drove on. Driving was his passion. It was in his blood. He had seen the fire in his father’s eyes every time he spun a car that came to his garage for testing after the repairs.   Being the son of a car mechanic he feared he too would never get a chance to drive one of his own. And this f...

Another Love

Image
Early in the morning when I wake up the first sensation I feel is the warmth of her fur at my feet. Half-asleep I brush my feet against her as if it were some doormat. That wakes her up and she begins to lick my feet as if she knew I was already late for work and Mom was no longer there to wake me up. She was a pup when I brought her in on a rainy day, all drenched and whining, a small bruise on her left hind leg. I had taken pity on her thinking she would be a wonderful company for my aged mother who had to stay back all alone in our cramped apartment while I had to go to work. Soon she was cleaned and dried and fed. I can still recall how apologetic and grateful the look in her eyes was when she came to my feet and licked it. Now I sit up in bed and pat her head, the look hasn’t changed much, the twinkle is still bright.  As I hurriedly finish my daily chores and get ready for work, she comes and woofs at me. Oh! Her breakfast, I keep forgetting. How I wish Mom wa...

SHE

Twinkling eyes & curly hair Sweet smile & skin fair A daughter, I’m born Bringing joy...heaven’s boon! Father’s gentle hands yet strong hold Mother’s warm hug driving away the cold Brother’s taunts that sometimes bring tears Are all that I hold dear! Then I am a friend to one and all Sharing secrets through telephonic calls We fight, we forgive & we forget For friends are a rare kind to get! Then seasons change & spring comes Heart beats faster as love dawns Life becomes rosy from his one glance Oh! How lovely to be in love’s trance! Tears spring when the dream shatters When betrayed, love no longer matters Heart broken , soul bitterly torn I struggle bravely to move on.... Age descends & I seek wisdom A wife, a mother I become Now its my turn to love and care The old and new family I share This world is different & I new With cautious little steps I make it through Bless my family Lord I pray E...

Love Not Meant To Be

Time stands still Everything comes to a halt Our eyes meet, fleeting glance mine lingers against my will Heart thumps, tinge of pain Shy, afraid I look away Million faces surround me Yet my eyes find him again He walks past me His fingers brush against mine It tingles me, hurt follows He shows no sign of being aware I dare not turn back Dreading that he’ll never But Cupid’s arrow has struck deep Hope against hope I turn back A tear trickles down as I see him, slowly lost in the crowd I turn my face away and walk away from love not meant to be…..
